LOU VAL

Lou Val is a Toronto-based artist who presents a new level of sound to the R&B/Soul and Indie genres. His songs have an airiness to them that elicits a calm and happy energy when listening. He’s got a very tranquil voice that is the soul of his music. His beats aren’t something to look past either - they tend to bring a dimensionality to his music, completely engulfing the listener in the experience intended for the song. Lou Val’s music is for those main character moments, a soundtrack for the most identifiable, emotional moments of life.

“Eternal Sunshine” is Lou Val’s most popularly streamed song, recently surpassing the 7 million mark, and it is the song that I first heard by him. What really began my investigation into his discography, though, was the song “Let Me Go” from his 2018 EP, Don’t Look Now. What caught my attention about this song was its powerful simplicity. It is far from being an energized song, yet it captures a specific kind of emotion with its lack of intensity. This is a unique, commonly present effect of Lou Val’s sounds. His music is immersive with emotion and evokes a certain kind of passion, ranging between heartfelt and heart wrenching.

There are many layers to Lou Val and his projects. The lyrics tell stories relatable to many, of the joys and miseries of life, and the accompanying beats perfectly set the mood for the emotional resonance. This isn’t something easily done, yet Lou Val never disappoints with his melodic ratio. Lou Val’s musical presence and energy he puts out for his fan base are a testament to the passion he has for his art which he consistently expresses through his music.
